I didn’t press publish, but I did hit send to publishers…

AFTER ten years you can't rush these things, can you?

I was going to hit publish on Amazon KDP. I had done the formatting, but couldn't work out how to get the cover on the ebook.

The one I had designed, if basic, didn't look too bad and all the boring stuff, the formatting and filling in the relevant sections had been done.

Then I thought, nah... give it a go. Send it to some publishers and, while you are waiting for the inevitable rejections, you can start promoting the forthcoming release of the ebook and maybe get some physical copies printed.

I visited the web pages of hundreds of publishers, eventually discovering around ten-15 that looked as if they could be a possibility.

At least six of those were closed for submissions and, on reading about the books they had published recently, another couple seemed out of reach.

Eventually I sent The Choreography of Ghosts off to six publishers - five only required the first three chapters and one the full manuscript - alongside a synopsis and covering letter.

Am I pleased with the 'finished' work? Yes, but then again I wouldn't put it out there, wherever there is, if I had reservations. Undoubtedly improvements can be made, but then again they always can.

For now, I'm expecting disappointment - I'm not an established author or a celebrity who is guaranteed to sell a certain amount of copies however good/bad their book is and I'm not yet prepared to undergo a transformation into Katie Price to achieve publication.

Although, come to think of it, that would be a story!

For now, I've hit the send button and will await any response, but otherwise I should be up and running on Amazon KDP in July.
